Modelling that answers a defined question
Traffic and transport models are most useful when their purpose, inputs and decision criteria are clear. TEF Consulting develops and reviews models at a level proportionate to the network, the available evidence and the choice that needs to be made.
From intersections to interacting networks
Assignments may involve isolated intersection analysis, coordinated corridors, precinct networks or microsimulation of closely spaced and interacting intersections. Models can test existing operation, background growth, development demand, staging and alternative geometric or operational treatments.

- Review surveys, demand assumptions and network coding
- Calibrate and validate against observed conditions where appropriate
- Test a transparent set of future scenarios and options
- Review queues, delays, capacity and network interactions
- Explain limitations and translate outputs into recommendations
Quality and interpretation
Model outputs are not treated as conclusions in isolation. We check whether results are consistent with observed behaviour, test sensitivity to important assumptions and use senior engineering judgement to interpret operational significance.
Decision-ready reporting
Results are presented so that project teams and authorities can understand what was tested, why it matters and how the preferred response performs. Supporting files and technical detail can be provided at a level suited to independent review.
