Traffic generation studies for NSW
Multiple site traffic generation research supporting grounded in evidence planning guidance for key development land uses across NSW.

Project context
NSW planning and transport decisions require traffic generation assumptions that reflect observed local behaviour across different land uses and operating conditions.
TEF scope
TEF Consulting contributed to large scale research covering residential, business park, service station, medical centre and child care uses. The work involved defining survey requirements, reviewing data quality, comparing sites and interpreting the factors influencing observed demand.
Outcome
The studies produced traceable evidence and practical findings that can support updates to NSW traffic generation guidance and more proportionate development assessment.
Evidence across multiple land uses
The research brought together observations from multiple sites so that results were not dependent on a single development or survey period. Particular attention was given to how location, scale, operating characteristics and travel context affect demand.
From data to guidance
Survey results were checked for consistency, analysed using appropriate measures and presented with limitations clearly identified. The resulting evidence helps practitioners select assumptions that are better matched to the project being assessed.
